Natural Choices for your Family

The first camping trip of the season….so excited, the weather forecast was great and we were all ready to go!  Until Monday happened, when we woke up to a vomiting Boss!  And I mean a proper big boy throwing up….not just a baby “I just burped and a little bit came up” type!  This would be Boss’ first Stomach Flu. Ok so he threw up in the morning, he seemed mostly fine and he ate a little bit, so we decided to go out and get a few things for the camping trip.  On our way out IN THE CAR poor little boss threw up EVERYWHERE! Hmmm should we still go camping?? Lets see what happens in the next 24 hours.  He improved so we decided to go. We survived the first stomach flu!!

The camping trip was to Kejimkujik National Park in NS, Canada.  It’s so beautiful and is definitely a place to be visited!  I have been going there for as long as I can remember with my parents, so it is such a joy to be able to take my own son now.  We had wonderful weather and enjoyed a few hikes and lots of camp fires.  Boss was still a bit under the weather and did not eat much but he had fun charging around the campground and swinging on the swings.  It was a great trip and can’t wait to go back in July!

We have decided to do a monthly promotion at Fluffy Bottom Babies.  Our June promotion was 10% off bumGenius 3.0 and bumGenius 3.0 12 pack.  Wow! I didn’t expect to sell out of our HUGE amount of stock in the first 2 weeks! I know the bG’s are popular but I guess I thought it would just be a few more orders than normal.  One day we had 4 12 packs from one person!!  Sorry to all those who missed out on the sale.  We will have great monthly promotions at Fluffy Bottom Babies so please check back on July 1st!!

We are currently on the hunt for some new fitted diapers to sell.  I am really keen on finding some in Canada, as well as being made out of bamboo (loving bamboo right now!!)  I have found some which are made locally and I love them!  I have also found some which are made in Ontario and will be trying those out too.  We do not have a huge selection of fitteds right now and I am slowly weeding out the ones I will not be selling in the future, hence the big sale!  If anyone out there knows of some really great fitteds please send me a message at admin@fluffybottombabies.ca

Last night my hubby and I attended a wedding sans Boss.  I felt really sad at the prospect of leaving him for the evening.  I enlisted my wonderful parents to watch Boss.  It was an evening wedding so they were going to have to put him to bed.  I was so worried!! He had never, ever been put down by anyone other than my husband or me!  How was this possibly going to work!?  The wedding was lovely and we had just sat down to dinner…..exactly around the time Boss should be in bed asleep.  So I decided to put my mind at rest with a quick check.  Well to my surprise, Boss was fast asleep….no problems….no screaming fits……all was well!  Ahhh what a relief!  It all went down without a hitch thanks to Granny & Grandpa.  Now I know he can do it without me which makes all that daycare/babysitting stuff to come seem a little bit easier.  Well, only a little!

April has quickly passed and we’re on our way to summer.  April was a very exciting month for us.  Boss turned one!  I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone.  I am fortunate enough to be able to take another year off from my job.  I can’t imagine going back yet….Boss and I are just not ready for that!

So back in September we purchased a bike trailer for Boss not realizing that he couldn’t actually go in it until he turned one.  Ooops!  I couldn’t wait for the 12 month mark to pass so I could hitch that thing to my bike and go on a neighbourhood adventure with Boss trailing behind!  The day finally came when my husband and I got out the bikes and went for a nice ride.  Boss loved it! He was laughing and clapping his hands.  What a great investment.  It’s a wonderful way to get some much need exercise, plus a really fun thing for Boss.  He loves being outdoors and he’ll love going along our local trail on those lovely summer days.  Strap on the Baby Banz, sun screen and we’ll be off!

We just got back from a wonderful week in Cuba.  The holiday was a well needed break and we had a great time.  Boss was his usual happy self and he adapted very well to his new surroundings.  We stayed at Brisas Guardalavaca and I must say what a great family resort it was.  The Villa rooms were spacious with lovely balconies and views.  The staffwere fantastic.  They were sooo helpful and couldn’t get enough of Boss….he charmed all the pretty Cuban ladies!

One thing I definately recommend for any beach holiday is a solar shade.  It looks like half a tent and blocks UV and creates a nice bit of shade on a hot, sunny beach.  We bought ours at Canadian Tire for $69.99 and it was the best 70 bucks we ever spent!  It was perfect for getting the much needed shade, and Boss slept in there like a champ!  We didn’t have to go back to the room for naps which made a huge difference to our day.  If you are going on a beach holiday you need to bring one with you!

One other thing I would recommend is the All Things Jill After Sunny Spray (sold at FBB for $10 -$15).  I got a bit of a sunburn and it started to get a bit itchy…..I sprayed this stuff on and it helped so much.  For all you people who burn, pick yourself up some of this spray!

Check it out here!

We have put a new advertisement in our local family directory magazine. It’s called Family & Co Magazine, it’s free and it is a great resource for families in the Halifax and surrounding areas. It is distributed all over the city including cafes, Dr’s offices, hospitals, and a whole bunch of other places. I’m hoping it brings more local attention to Fluffy Bottom Babies.
Today I took Boss to a new indoor playground called Aplaydia. It was really nice. They have nice comfy leather sofas to lounge on while your little ones play. They even have a little toddlers area with plushy soft blocks which Boss loved! While I was there I noticed they carry Family & Co magazine……I just had to flip to page 10 and check out our ad! I was so excited to see it I even felt the need to broadcast it to the staff. Anyway, Boss and I liked Aplaydia and we will definitely go back.

This is my first blog since taking over Fluffy Bottom Babies.  I never really knew what the heck to write on one of these and had been thinking about doing it for ages.   Here goes…..

The reason I started today was because of an article about breastfeeding.  I breastfeed my 10 month old and I like to do it and I think it’s good for him.  I don’t think breastfeeding is for everyone and I don’t think any less of any mother for not doing it!  Sometimes it just doesn’t work!  So the article today was stating that breastfeeding is not actually healthier than formula and does not have the benefits the World Health Organization (not to mention countless other organizations!) state.  Hmmmm…..wait a minute…..isn’t it nature? Doesn’t breast milk have every nutrient your baby needs?  Why would we produce the milk if we were in fact supposed to feed our babies artificial milk, or milk from another animal?? Anyway, I just think it’s irresponsible to write anything against breastfeeding….if you can and want to do it why not??? It is very economical (I mean free!), it DOES have health benefits and it is a lovely bonding experience. The other thing that bothered me about the article was that the writer feels that breastfeeding is an upper middle class thing.  Ummm I think you’ll find that most third world country mothers breast feed their babies.  Anyway…..enough of that ranting.

I will continue to do this blogging thing.  I guess I can rant about stuff like this, and of course let you know of anything to do with Fluffy Bottom Babies!  Or I will occasionally update you about my baby boy….’Boss’ as he is referred to in our house.  Boss is trying to get himself to sleep for his nap.  Fingers crossed it lasts longer than 30 minutes!!
